  • Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT)

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB):

The certification program enables the individuals to work effectively with the pharmacists such that they can offer safe and effective services and patient care. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board provides the certification only to those candidates who meet the eligibility requirements and pass their certification exam. The certification exam conducted by PTCB is termed as Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE).

If you are eligible to go for the pharmacy technician test, you can pay the cost of exam which is $129 and apply for it. The PTCB allows the facility to apply online also for the candidates. The Exams are delivered in over 220 Pearson VUE test centers in year-round.

As for the certification exam, PTCB has made the pattern for the questions asked which are:

  • Assisting to Pharmacists for serving patients (66%)
  • Maintaining Inventory Control System and Medication (22%)
  • Participating in Management and Administration of Pharmacy Practice (12%)

Institute for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT):

The pharmacy technician test conducted by the Institute for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians is termed as Examination for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT). However, like the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, ICPT also has some requirements which are:

  • The candidate should be at least of 18 years of age or above
  • Should contain high school diploma or equivalent
  • No felony convictions
  • Should not have any license of registration suspended or revoked or caught in any of disciplinary actions by State Health Regulatory Board.
  • Should not be pled guilty to drug related felony

Though the study of pharmacy technician training classes in pharmacy technician schools is not kept mandatory, but it is advised to take one.
